Lake Bunyonyi is located just 2 hours away from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Depending on the gate where your trekking starts the drive might take some time longer.

Bwindi Impentrable National Park offers the possibility to visit the rare Mountain Gorillas in their natural environment. To find them you will first have to hike through the forest. Depending on the group you will be trekking and their movements during the day this hike can take between 30 minutes and 2,5 hours.

The Gorillas can be visited through 4 gates, which form the entry points to the forest.

In the Northern part of the forest the gate is named Buhoma. It is the starting point for visits to three different familygroups, named Habinyanja, Mubare and Rushegura. Coming from Lake Bunyonyi this gate is the most far away. The drive there takes 4 hours, but can take up to 5 hours due to bad road conditions during rainy season.

In the Eastern part of the park you will find the Ruhija gate. Here you can trek only two There is a third habituated group there, however it is only followed for research purposes. The drive there from Lake Bunyonyi takes 1,5 hour, reaching up to 2 hours in rainy season. groups, Bitakura and Oruzogo.

In the Southern part the gate is named Rushaga and it offers the possibility to visit one of the four family groups there, named Nshongi, Bweza, Mishaya or Kahungye. The drive to this gate will take 2,5 to 3,5 hours depending on road conditions.

Still in the Southern part you can also start your trekking experience from the Nkuringo gate. This gate hosts only one family group, named Nkuringo. The drive there should take around 4 hours.

Gorilla trekking permits cost 650$ per person in high season. In low season prices for permits are lowered to just 350$. To this price the cost of transport will be added. This cost varies depending on the gate you will be going to.

Permits have to be ordered and paid in advance, are strictly personal following passport identity information and are not transferable to another person or to be shifted to any other date.
